About
Cheddar Gorge & Caves is perfect for those seeking adventure with a range of Rocksport activities for all abilities, suitable for adults and children aged 8 years and over. Exclusive group bookings for 10 people are available at a discounted rate.
Rock Climbing
So, you’ve seen the awe-inspiring cliff faces of Cheddar Gorge, stretching to a height of over 450ft, but can you imagine climbing them? That’s exactly what you will be doing on this rock-climbing experience.
Qualified instructors will be on hand to show you the ropes, whatever your ability, as you climb within the shadow of the gorge’s cliffs on a 50ft high outdoor climbing wall.
There are many ascent routes you can choose from, ranging from beginner to advanced.
Junior Climbing for younger adventurers (age 8+) and Adventure Climbing for adults and older children (age 13+) run daily. Each session is 90 minutes. Maximum of 10 participants per session.
Caving
Cheddar is not just spectacular on the surface; it’s spectacular underground as well.
Suitable for all ability levels, our experienced instructors will have you exploring subterranean caverns in no time.
Switch on your head torch and get ready to feel like you’ve entered a lost world. You’ll climb, crawl, and descend into the heart of the cave system deep underground.
There are two versions of the caving experiences. Junior Caving for younger adventurers (age 8+) and Adventure Caving for adults and older children (age 13+). Each session is 90 minutes. Maximum of 10 participants per session.
Black Cat Freefall
Calling all thrill seekers, Cheddar Gorge & Caves have created a unique experience right in the heart of Gough’s Cave.
The Black Cat Chamber was named by the cave’s discoverer, Richard Gough, after one of his son's placed a work light on the floor and a mysterious silhouette of a cat was seen on the wall!
Climb the 30ft ladder, take a leap of faith and enjoy an exhilarating free fall before being lowered safely back to the ground.
The Blackcat Freefall experience is available for ages 11+. Each session is 90 minutes. Maximum of 10 participants per session.
