About
Bath Preservation Trust is a charitable trust dedicated to celebrating and protecting the city’s stunning architecture and surrounding green areas.
Visit the only dressed Georgian house in Bath at No.1 Royal Crescent, enjoy a programme of solar and star gazing at the Herschel Museum of Astronomy, and climb Beckford’s Tower for panoramic views of Bath and beyond!
In addition to its advocacy and campaigning work, the Trust also runs four museums in the area. The museums are open to the public, although members enjoy complimentary access - you can learn more about BPT membership here.
No.1 Royal Crescent is the first house on the iconic Royal Crescent, authentically decorated and furnished just as it might have been by its first owners! The museum offers a brand-new immersive experience, allowing you to see life as it was lived in Georgian Bath during the late 1700s.
The Herschel Museum of Astronomy gives a fascinating insight into the lives and work of the astronomers William and Caroline Herschel. In 2022 it celebrated 200 years since the death of William Herschel with a new “Herschel 200” exhibition and a series of events, plus a brand new stonework which now sits in the garden of the museum to mark the place where William first discovered the planet Uranus. An audio tour is available for adult visitors bringing the house to life with stories about how the Herschel family lived and worked in Bath, alongside an audio-visual guide for children.
Beckford's Tower and Museum is currently closed for restoration works. Once reopened, follow in William Beckford’s footsteps and climb the iconic spiral staircase up the Tower, and admire the stunning views from the top.
The Museum of Bath Architecture is currently closed for repairs.
