About

Vale House Kitchen offers a one-day Bread Making Course designed to introduce participants to a wide range of delicious British and Continental breads and doughs, giving them the confidence to make these breads regularly at home. While baking bread might seem intimidating to many home cooks, the course aims to demystify the process and show just how easy and rewarding it can be.

Skills:

  • Farmhouse Loaf
  • Focaccia
  • Ciabatta
  • Pizza
  • Cinnamon Buns
  • Using different flours, including wheat flour, rye flour, and spelt

The course begins with a demonstration of each type of bread, followed by hands-on practice where participants learn how to mix and knead both soft Continental dough and tighter British doughs. The kneading process is done by hand to help participants develop a feel for the dough as it evolves, a crucial skill in bread making. While this can be a bit of a workout, it's a very rewarding one, and course members always leave feeling tired but happy, with an impressive selection of breads they've made themselves.

The goal of the course is not only to teach basic recipes but also to provide an understanding of what makes dough behave the way it does. Throughout the day, the subject of bread making is thoroughly demystified, with plenty of opportunities for participants to ask questions about everything from the baking process to the nutritional and health benefits of various types of bread.

By the end of the day, participants will go home with a selection of their own freshly baked creations, along with a course booklet containing all the recipes used and additional guidance notes. A delicious lunch is also included in the course.

Please note, while the course will cover Sourdough Breads in theory, participants will not make them during this Artisan Bread Making Course. Those interested in learning all about Sourdough Bread are encouraged to explore Vale House Kitchen's dedicated Sourdough Bread Course.
