Great beer gardens and alfresco suntraps, perfect for enjoying a cold pint or cocktail…

1. The Bath Brew House

Tucked away at the back of The Bath Brew House is their sunny and sociable beer garden. During the colder seasons, a large, welcoming marquee fills the space. Enjoy a pint of their own beer from their on-site microbrewery, or a bite to eat – the menu is a great mix of pub grub classics, especially if you’ve got a big appetite.

2. Green Park Brasserie

Choose from two large, covered alfresco terraces at Green Park Brasserie, housed in a former Victorian station building. Enjoy early evening two for £12 cocktails, bottomless brunch or a relaxing steak dinner on the terrace, with the choice to head indoors to watch free live jazz performances throughout the week.

3. The Cork

Although more of a terrace than a garden, The Cork’s south-facing outdoor patio is a lively spot with a great atmosphere. Perfectly located in the centre of town, and the sister pub to The Bath Brew House, just down the road, The Cork also serve up a menu of classic bar food, from burgers to nachos. Once the sun sets, you can head inside for some entertainment from DJs at weekends, or book one of their karaoke pods!

4. The Grapes

The Grapes is home to another city centre terrace where you can sip pints alfresco. Grab a seat outside their historic building (it's been a public house since 1792!) on Westgate Street. It's always worth checking out what's going on inside too, with live music and vinyl DJs most nights.

5. The Bell Inn

The Bell Inn on Walcot Street is another much-loved live music venue as well as a cooperative pub, which has been owned by its customers, fans and workers since 2013. If hunger strikes, The Pizza Bike are on hand in the garden to provide fresh sourdough pizzas every Wednesday and Friday (4 - 9pm), plus Saturday (1 - 9pm) and Sunday (12 - 5pm).

6. The Quarrymans Arms

Cosy country pub The Quarrymans in Box has breathtaking countryside views over the Bybrook Valley from its back garden.

7. The Bath Cider House

Bath's first dedicated cider pub, The Bath Cider House even makes four of its own ciders on the premises! As well as cider, you can also enjoy a range of beers and other drinks, plus 14” square pizzas from the kitchen, to enjoy inside or out on their part-covered terrace, overlooking the Bath skyline.

8. The George Inn

Take a seat in the beer garden of the historic 14th-century Grade I listed Tudor George Inn, located just a short drive from Bath. With spectacular views across Norton St Philip and the surrounding countryside, this is the perfect spot for a countryside al fresco lunch or drinks pitstop.

9. Ludo Sports Bar

Boasting not one but two outdoor spaces, including a back terrace and a rooftop balcony which looks out towards the city, Ludo Sports Bar is a great option for groups or as the first port of call when you arrive in the city, as it is located next door to the train and bus stations.

10. Electric Bear Brewing taproom

Open from Thursdays to Sundays, the Electric Bear taproom has a large outdoor area where you can enjoy their range of award-winning beer, which is made just a few feet away. They also host street food stalls every weekend, as well as live music, quizzes and more.

11. The Hope Pole

Take a seat in the hidden garden at this traditional pub, located across the road from Royal Victoria Park. The pub is owned by local brewery Abbey Ales, so you'll always find some local cask beers on tap.

12. The Boater

The outdoor terrace of The Boater is located by the stunning Pulteney Bridge, complete with a weir-side bar and a large selection of cask ales. A traditional rugby pub just a stone’s throw from The Rec, where Bath Rugby play, it's always an animated place on match days. 

13. Sub 13

If you love a cocktail in the sunshine, then Sub 13 is for you. Sipping on one of their refreshing mojitos in the beautiful back garden is a must. As the sun goes down and their twinkling string lights come on, outdoor heaters will keep the spring chill at bay.

14. The Locksbrook Inn

Located right on the bank of the canal in Lower Weston, The Locksbrook Inn is ideal for a lazy, long spring afternoon. Sit out on their patio beside the water and you can watch cyclists and walkers pass whilst enjoying a drink from their outside bar. Sister pub The Moorfields in nearby Oldfield Park and also has a large outdoor seating area.

15. Hare & Hounds

Boasting some outstanding countryside views of Bath, the Hare & Hounds is situated at the top of Lansdown Road, to the north of the city. Enjoy a drink or two and admire the vista out in their large garden, or if you've worked up an appetite on a walk in the surrounding countryside, their menu of delicious, seasonal fare will be just the ticket.

16. The Marlborough Tavern

Close to the Royal Crescent and the leafy Royal Victoria Park, The Marlborough Tavern is a friendly gastropub serving great tasting, home-cooked food. Their pub garden is a walled courtyard space ideal for catching some springtime rays with a drink in hand.
