About
Will Hutton and Polly Toynbee review the reforms and strategies of the new Labour government and discuss how it has been addressing the pressing economic, social and political challenges we face.
They will look at the government's five key missions – economic growth, clean energy, safer streets, opportunities for all and an NHS fit for the future – and discuss the actions taken on these so far. Where do we need to see new policy development to deliver lasting economic and social change?
The event will be chaired by Dr Sophie Whiting (University of Bath) and there will be time for audience questions.
Will Hutton is a political economist, author and journalist. He is President of the Academy of Social Sciences, has chaired two government Commissions, and has chaired, directed and/or founded four think tanks: the Employment Policy Institute, the Work Foundation, the Big Innovation Centre, and the Purposeful Company.
Polly Toynbee is a journalist, author and broadcaster. A Guardian columnist and broadcaster, she was formerly the BBC's social affairs editor. She has won numerous awards including a National Press Award and the Orwell Prize for Journalism. Her latest book, co-authored with David Walker, is The Only Way Is Up: How to Take Britain from Austerity to Prosperity.
