About

Mayor's Officer Anthony Martin uncovers the fascinating history of the Mayors of Bath, with their intricate regalia and traditions dating back centuries.

This talk will show how, as the sinews of local government evolved, the power brokers of Bath were transformed into ceremonial figureheads, solemnly representing the dignity of the City to visitors and residents alike.

With an in-depth knowledge of the ancient charters and privileges of the City, Anthony will explain how today's mayoralty sits happily beside the executive powers of the wider Bath & North East Somerset Council, from which it is now entirely separate.
