About

Between February 26th and March 31st, Ellie Thompson, an artist based in the South West, will exhibit a cast of puppet-like sculptures at The Egg, Theatre Royal Bath. Inspired by The Egg's reputation for being a place of innovation, imagination and learning for young people, Thompson will install a site specific installation of brightly coloured, theatrical sculptures.

Thompson's unique characters, all sewn out of felt fabric, are fictional animal skeletons that explore the artist's cartoonish sense of humour. Imagined anatomy and schadenfreude combine in these surprisingly relatable dinosaur-like creatures, which are either stuck suspended or appear to be falling to the ground. Though motionless, each skeleton is animated through its unknowing yet all-seeing eyes, through which the viewer may connect with the character - at once laughing at its expense and sharing in its misfortune.

About Ellie Thompson: Ellie Thompson is an artist based in the South West. Since graduating from The Ruskin School of Art in 2022, Ellie has toured an ensemble of hapless characters across the country and has had four solo exhibitions in Oxford, Bath, Corsham and Chippenham. Thompson's interest in schadenfreude, the joy derived from another's misfortune, anatomy and a cartoonish sense of humour informs each of her soft sculptures. Her puppet-like characters are at once extinct and alive, forever stuck in a sticky situation.
