About

A celebration of the 275th anniversary of possibly the greatest composer of all time, Johann Sebastian Bach.

Internationally acclaimed organist and Abbey Music Director, Huw Williams, continues his project to play the complete works of Bach over sixteen performances between November 2024 and September 2025. The third in the series - tonight's concert features highlights from Bach's compositions based around the liturgical calendar period known as Epiphany. Grab that glass of wine and sit back to revel in a completely different sort of New Year celebration!

Concert Bar available

This New Year concert showcases some glorious music including Bach's uplifting Fantasia in G BWV 572 (sometimes called 'Piece d'orgue') and the joyful In dir ist Freude BWV 615. Music composed to represent the baptism of Christ 'Christ, unser Herr, zum Jordan kam' BWV 684 vividly depicts the running water of the river Jordan in the flowing semi-quavers of the left hand, whilst Bach appears at his most sunny and 'Italian' in the the uplifting and cheerful Trio Sonata no 6 in G major. Join Huw to welcome in the New Year as he performs on the recently restored Klais organ in the magnificent setting that is Bath Abbey.
