About
The Malthouse offers a memorable, historic setting for your family adventures in Somerset, but with the relaxed, spacious living and level of home comforts you might not expect in a 300 hundred-year-old house. Lovingly restored right down to the authentic nails used in the oak floorboards, it’s never looked better. Plenty of character and many original features adorn the house throughout.
As soon as you walk through the heavy oak door into the original cart-way entrance, you’ll feel the warmth of this welcoming home. A couple of steps from the entrance take you to an easily accessible ground floor king bedroom with a shower and toilet.
Off the cartway the stylish handmade kitchen and dining room has a working stone fireplace and a huge pine dining table that can host up to 14 people.
The kitchen leads to two comfortable lounges, both thoughtfully furnished. One has an inglenook fireplace to warm yourself by on colder days, a deep sofa and a workspace. The other is the garden room where you can enjoy far-reaching views of the idyllic countryside. Elegantly proportioned, it has a 55-inch smart TV and plenty of room for family games and relaxation.
The turret stairway leads you, with help from a rope banister, up to the first floor where there are four bedrooms and two bathrooms. All the bedrooms are large and comfortable with crisp Egyptian cotton linen and fluffy towels. The master bedroom, flooded with light from the dual aspect windows, is beautifully decorated and can also be a mini-suite. The second floor has the remaining two bedrooms. One with views over the garden and countryside, the other twin room has a captivating view of the ancient malthouse roof through a floor-to-ceiling glass window. This is an ideal family room, sharing the bathroom and entrance to the floor. Most bedrooms can be split to make singles.
The outside space has a big open courtyard and a large, long, well-managed garden with views of the church and village cricket pitch. Guests enjoy alfresco dining and barbecues. A range of outdoor games including table tennis are provided for screen-free fun.
The UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath with its many historic attractions is a 15-minute drive away or ideally take the bus. Guests can easily reach pretty Bradford on Avon, the trendy market town of Frome, and charming Bruton for its acclaimed Hauser & Wirth art gallery. Glastonbury with its legendary tor, the original and best safari park Longleat and unmissable Stonehenge are also nearby, along with countless other national Trust properties, quaint villages and ancient churches.
Guests are sure to have an unforgettable stay at The Malthouse.
