This walking tour examines Bath's connections with Britain’s slave economy in the 18th century, and looks at how the city transitioned from being entirely reliant on its status as a spa and health resort in 1700, to a fashionable city and place of entertainment for the wealthy in Britain at the turn of the century.

The tour aims to provide an understanding as to how Georgian Bath was constructed and funded, and of the people behind the construction of the new Georgian city, as well as their specific connections to the slave economy operating in Britain at that time. The walk will conclude with why the legacies of the Transatlantic Slave Trade and integral slave economy that operated in Britain at that time, of which Georgian Bath was a part, is such an important subject if we are to understand our present and to find ways forward to address inequality and racism in our society.

The walk starts outside the West Door of Bath Abbey.
